Disinformation is an escalating worldwide social phenomenon exploiting psychological vulnerabilities to shape the way we think, change our behaviour and even effect the outcomes of elections.

We examine the different online and offline information environment threats attempting to disrupt our social cohesion and shape community discourse through cyber and cognitive hacking attacks.

This focused workshop will address:

  • What does it do and why does it work?
  • What are government and private sector risk implications and perspectives?
  • How can disinformation be countered?
  • Media bias and the role of Big Tech platforms
  • Rise of citizen warfare
  • Future of information warfare
  • Strategies for your organisation to manage risk

Who Should Attend?

This Synergy workshop will benefit intelligence analysts, security investigators and communication professionals seeking real insight into the consequences of cognitive hacking and online influence activities on organisations and the best methods to manage and counter.

Workshop approach

This practical workshop is delivered over one day and designed to be highly engaging and interactive. We involve participants immediately through facilitated discussions and technical exercises using Australian case examples and data sets to highlight lessons learnt and show how government departments and industry manages the risk and impact of malign online activities.

We will discuss marketing, political and technological techniques malicious actors are employing, exploring detailed case studies from China's influence on Australia through to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis and the evolving nature of information warfare. We look into the rise of Big Tech platforms and their business models and the increasingly powerful role they play in global public discussion inside the interconnected government, defence, media and social influencer ecosystem.
